It’s the midway point or beyond for Aroostook County’s high school soccer teams and several are in favorable positions in the Heal Point standings.
The Caribou boys are now first in Class B North after topping MDI at home Saturday and Washington Academy on the road Monday. The Vikings currently hold a 5-1-1 record.
In Class C, Houlton is at 6-0-1 and in second place. The Shires can move up as they play point worthy opponents over the next several days. Houlton plays No. 3 Orono Thursday and then takes on No. 1 Fort Kent Oct. 2 (home) and Oct. 4 (at Fort Kent).
The Central Aroostook Panthers continue to be the top-ranked team in Class D, holding a 10-0 record entering Friday’s home match against Southern Aroostook. Easton had reeled off three consecutive wins before heading into its lengthy harvest break and is in fourth at 7-4.
For the girls, Houlton is 7-0 and just behind No. 1 Dexter in the Class C rankings. The Shires picked up a big win at home over Orono Monday. Those teams meet again Friday in Orono.
The Class D standings have Central Aroostook in first with its 10-0 record. The Panthers have a major showdown against Southern Aroostook Friday. The Warriors are in third place with a 6-1 mark. Ashland, which upset Fort Kent Saturday, is up to second place at 7-2.

Girls soccer
Fort Kent 3, Presque Isle 1 — The Warriors surprised the Wildcats last Tuesday at the Gehrig Johnson Athletic Complex behind two goals from Gabby Martin and a single goal by Sydney Philbrook.
Morgan Cyr and Kailee Guimond picked up assists for Fort Kent. The lone Presque Isle goal was scored by Paige McHatten. The Wildcats’ senior striker, Madison Michaud, was held scoreless for the first time this season.
Presque Isle had beaten the Warriors in Fort Kent on Sept. 6 by a score of 4-2.

Ashland 7, Wisdom 0 — The Hornets blanked the Pioneers on a wet field in Ashland last Tuesday. Gabby Ayotte and Willow Hall supplied two goals each to lead the way, with Shelby Stoltz, Kayla MacLean and Mia Carney adding one apiece. Ayotte also assisted on a pair of goals with Stoltz, MacLean and Kassandra Nelson notching one apiece.
Reagan Libby and Kaitlyn Dotson shared goalkeeping chores for the Hornets and had three saves on three shots. Wisdom’s Alyssa Banville turned away nine of 34 shots.
Southern Aroostook 6, MSSM 0 — At Dyer Brook Wednesday, the Warriors rolled to a 6-0 shutout over the Maine School of Science and Mathematics as six different players scored goals.
For SA, Jordyn Legassey, Emman Nadeau, Kassidy Mathers, Kylie Vining, Aliyah Morales and Makaelyn Porter each had one goal, while Kate Slauenwhite, Paige Vose, Mathers and Emily Skinner had assists.
Sydney Brewer made seven saves on nine shots for the Warriors. Sadie Hartt was in goal for the Penguins and had 14 saves on 23 shots.
Central Aroostook 1, Washburn 0 — The Panthers reached double digits in victories and remained undefeated with the shutout win at home Thursday.
Kayla Martin scored the game’s only goal at the 6:08 mark of the first half. Olivia Blackstone registered her third consecutive shutout and fifth of the season in goal, saving the only shot she faced.
Trinity Saucier saved 17 of 40 shots as the Beavers’ goalkeeper.
Ashland 5, Katahdin 0 — The Hornets’ Kaitlyn Dotson had the shutout in goal with three saves on seven shots and Shelby Stolze tallied twice and notched a pair of assists in Thursday’s triumph in Stacyville.
Olivia Tardie, Kassandra Nelson and Willow Hall also scored goals for Ashland. Gabby Ayotte and Nelson picked up assists. Autumn McGraw saved seven of 29 shots in goal for the Cougars.
Houlton 6, Mattanawcook Academy 0 — At Houlton Thursday, the Shires received two goals from Bre Barton, while Samantha Johnson, Jamie Brown, Emma Ardell and Eden Davis each had solo goals. Sierra Hoops had two assists, while Brown and Rebecca Howe also had assists.
Kennedy Buzzeo made five saves in goal for the Shires. Paige Briggs had nine saves for the Lynx.
Fort Fairfield 2, Van Buren 1 — Kourtney West scored a goal and registered an assist in the Tigers’ home victory Thursday. Camryn Ala had the other goal for Fort Fairfield and Kennedy Bencivenga notched an assist. Caijsa Benson saved one of three shots in goal for the Tigers.
Mykayla Bresett had an unassisted goal and goalkeeper Bailey Laplante collected nine saves on 20 shots for the Crusaders.
Madawaska 5, Katahdin 1 — At Stacyville Friday, the visiting Owls rolled to the 5-1 victory. Individual results were not reported.
Ashland 3, Fort Kent 2 — Gabby Ayotte scored twice and Shelby Stolze added another as the Hornets nipped the Warriors in an upset at Fort Kent Saturday.
Kassandra Nelson assisted on two of the goals and Willow Hall also had an assist for the winners, who are now 7-2. Eighth-grader Reagan Libby made four saves on nine shots in goal for Ashland.
Fort Kent had entered the game in first place in Class C North and owns a win over Class B Presque Isle and had tied Caribou. Morgan Cyr and Kailee Guimond were the goal scorers for the Warriors.
Presque Isle 5, John Bapst 0 — Madison Michaud scored three goals, her 16th, 17th and 18th of the season, to power the Wildcats past the Crusaders at the University of Maine at Orono Saturday.
Maggie Castonguay scored her first-ever Wildcat goal and Clara Kohlbacher also netted a goal for Presque Isle. Goalkeeper Rebecca Rider, with six saves, collected her first shutout of the season.
Caribou 3, Mount Desert Island 0 — The Vikings picked up a major win Saturday at home behind goals from Willow Whitten, Edie Shea and Monica McLaughlin. Sage Dubay played in goal for Caribou and garnered the shutout.
Southern Aroostook 5, Shead 1 — At Dyer Brook Saturday, the Warriors received two goals from Kassidy Mathers, while Willow Brooks, Kylie Vining and Makaelyn Porter each contributed a goal. Jacqueline Cook scored the lone goal for Shead.
Houlton 3, GSA 0 — At Houlton Saturday, Barton, Johnson and Brown each scored solo goals as the Shires beat GSA. Brown also tallied an assist. Tessa Solomon made three saves on five shots.
Houlton 1, Orono 0 — In a rematch of last year’s semifinal contest, Houlton shut out the visiting Red Riots. Shire freshman Olivia Henderson scored the game’s only goal to carry Houlton to the victory.
Boys soccer
Presque Isle 2, Fort Kent 1 — The Warriors’ streak of holding opponents scoreless ended Sept. 18 as the host Wildcats scored a huge victory.
Presque Isle senior midfielder Zechariah Morse broke a 1-1 tie by ripping in a shot from 25 yards out off a Gage LeTourneau assist with 18 minutes remaining in the match.
“After our last two meetings with them ended in a draw, the key was which team was going to catch a break and capitalize on their opportunities,” said Wildcat coach Joe Greaves. “Thankfully Zech took advantage and put one in. It was a big shot in a big moment of the game.”
Jonah Hudson put PI on the scoreboard first with 1:17 left in the first half. Fort Kent’s Austin Plourde drilled in a direct kick midway through the second half to knot the score.
Wildcat goalkeeper registered his third shutout by saving five of seven shots. Reece Pelletier also saved five of seven for Fort Kent.
Wisdom 2, Ashland 1 — The Hornets’ Dylan Haley netted a penalty kick with 33:21 left in the match for his team’s lone goal in the home loss to the Pioneers Sept. 18.
Jake Roy and Corey Frank registered the Wisdom goals. Garrett Tilley mades seven saves on 14 shots for Ashland, while Trevor Canture and Mason Sirois combined for two saves on six shots for Wisdom.
Southern Aroostook 1, MSSM 0 — The Warriors (1-5) secured their first win of the season Wednesday with the shutout over the Maine School of Science and Mathematics. SA’s Gavin Vining tallied the game’s only goal after taking a long free kick from Xavier Morales to beat MSSM goalie Colin Whitney.
SA netminder Jacob Brooks had seven saves on 13 shots, while Whitney finished with five save on 10 shots.
The Penguins fall to 0-3 on the season.
“MSSM played with a lot of skill up front and controlled the game for long stretches,” SA coach Paul Sherman said. “They deserved a better result but couldn’t put the ball on net as often as they wanted to despite having some good looks. SA played hard defensively, generated good offense in short bursts, and held on in the end. Goalie Jacob Brooks did a fine job reading the field and cutting off some scoring chances.”
Central Aroostook 13, Washburn 0 — Hunter Wardell continued his torrid scoring pace, knocking in four goals and assisting on two others as the Panthers won big Thursday in Mars Hill.
Ben Thomas and Hayden Kingsbury each had a hat trick and an assist, while Ethan Pryor, Bryan Anthony and Josh Thomas also scored goals. Jacob Carvell, Zach O’Leary, Malachi Fitzherbert and Josh Thomas added assists.
Brayden Bradbury made two saves for his eighth shutout and Beckham Vaughn had 13 saves for Washburn.
Ashland 5, Katahdin 0 — Dylan Haley put in two goals and Reece Deabay, Josh Clark and Weston Robinson had one apiece as the Hornets blanked the Cougars Thursday in Stacyville. Robinson and Sam Craig each collected two assists. Gabriel Page gained the shutout in goal by making four saves on seven shots.
Katahdin’s Caleb Giles turned away 10 of 20 shots for Katahdin.
Van Buren 3, Fort Fairfield 0 — Matthew Burgess, Michael Ayotte and Blake Martin each scored in the first half for the Crusaders in Thursday’s win over the Tigers.
Colby LaPointe was the winning goalie with eight saves on 18 shots. Kobe West saved four of eight shots for Fort Fairfield.
Madawaska 3, Katahdin 0 — At Stacyville Friday, Katahdin was shut out for the second straight day. The Owls received goals from Jordan Clavette, Tristan Cyr, and Robert Lausier. Andrew Nadeau had five saves on six shots for the winners. Caleb Giles had 20 saves on 26 shots for Katahdin.
Houlton 2, GSA 1 — At Houlton Saturday, Nolan Porter scored a pair of goals as the Shires rallied to beat GSA. Jaron Gentle assisted on both of Porter’s goals. Owen Vinal tallied the goal for GSA.
Houlton goalie Drew Foley had 14 saves on five shots, while Jed Sawyer made 14 saves on 16 shots.
Southern Aroostook 4, Shead 2 — At Dyer Brook Saturday, Gavin Vining booted in three goals to lead the Warriors to their second straight victory. Brett Williams added a solo goal and had an assist for the Warriors (2-5). Damien Lank and Jacob Cook each had a goal for Shead.
Jacob Brooks had 10 saves on 13 shots for SA, while CJ Francis had eight saves for 14 shots.
Fort Kent 6, Ashland 0 — The Warriors kept their home winning streak alive Saturday by besting the Hornets. Kayden Nadeau scored twice, while Camden Jandreau, Noah Martin, Austin Plourde and Colby Theriault were the others with goal for Fort Kent.
Caribou 6, Mount Desert Island 1 — Alex Ezzy scored five times as the Vikings cruised at home Saturday.
The senior midfielder scored three of his goals in the first 12 minutes of play and he added two more insurance tallies in the second half. Ethan Holdsworth had Caribou’s other goal and assisted on two of Ezzy’s. Cullin Caverhill also had two assists and Tom Pinette had another. Caribou goalkeeper Noah Hixon saved four of eight shots.
Presque Isle 4, John Bapst 0 — Colby Carlisle scored his team-leading sixth goal of the season to put the Wildcats in front early and Mason Young picked up his fourth shutout of the season by making three saves on six shots in Saturday’s match played at the University of Maine at Orono.
Kyler Caron had a goal and an assist and Zech Morse and Jonah Hudson also provided goals for PI. Carlisle assisted on Caron’s goal.
Caribou 4, Washington Academy 1 — Ethan Holdsworth made a corner kick 10 minutes into the match to give the visiting Vikes a 1-0 halftime lead and the team netted three insurance goals in the second half for a point-worthy win over the Raiders in East Machias.
Tom Pinette scored off an Alex Ezzy assist, Ezzy tallied off an Austin Findlen pass and Cullin Caverhill iced in with an unassisted goal in the final minute of play.
Presque Isle 3, Mount Desert Island 2 — Zechariah Morse drilled a penalty kick with under 10 minutes left for his second goal of the match, pacing Presque Isle to the road win Monday.
Morse and Colby Carlisle netted first-half goals for the Wildcats. Mason Young handled the goalkeeping chores for PI.
Hodgdon 3, Shead 1 — At Hodgdon Monday, the Hawks received two goals from Josh Palmer and a solo goal by Jesse Frederick as the Hawks notched the victory. Josh Foster and Josh McGillicuddy tallied assists for Hodgdon.
Austin Ashby scored the lone goal for Shead.
Hodgdon goalie Michael Sanders had seven saves on 10 shots, including a huge save on a penalty shot.
“Michael has been huge in goal for us all year as he continues to gain experience,” Hodgdon coach Jason Little said. “He stopped a penalty shot today when it was a 2-1 game and that’s his second save off a penalty shot this year.”
The coach added Monday’s game was a team effort with players coming off the bench to provide quality minutes.
