The Presque Isle Elks Lodge 1954 held its 17th annual Soccer Shoot competition at the University of Maine at Presque Isle Gentile Hall athletic field Sunday, Sept. 23, with winners decided in eight divisions.
Competitors under the age of 8 each had three attempts to kick a youth sized soccer ball, from 15 feet away, through five different sized goals ranging from 48 inches wide to 17 inches wide, with greater points being awarded as the goals became smaller. The winners were Brayden Amero of Caribou and Jenna Strid of Caribou.

Youth competing in the age 8 and 9-year-old division had 15 attempts to kick a youth sized soccer ball from a distance of 18 feet into a regulation goal divided into nine sections, with greater points awarded to the balls kicked through those sections of the goal more difficult to defend, such as the top corners. Winners in this division were Blayne Tardif of Mapleton and Ashton Bugbee of Presque Isle.
Entrants in the 10 and 11-year-old division had 15 attempts to kick a youth sized soccer ball from 21 feet away into the goal divided into nine sections. The winners in this division were Grace Ellis of Easton and Brent Greenlaw of Presque Isle.
The 12 and 13-year-old competitors had 15 attempts to kick a regular size soccer ball from 27 feet away into the regulation sized goal divided into nine sections. Winners were Taylor Marston of Presque Isle and Dawson Kinney of Presque Isle.
In addition to the trophies presented, the winners earned the right to compete in the Northern Maine District Soccer Shoot to be held in Bangor on Sunday, Sept. 30.
Winners from that competition will advance to the state competition to be held at the Augusta Elks Lodge in October.
