PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — The board of directors of the Aroostook Agency on Aging invite County citizens 55 years of age or older to attend the agency’s 45th annual meeting.

The event will be held on Friday, Oct. 12, beginning at 9:30 a.m. at the Caribou Inn and Convention Center.

U.S. Sen. Susan Collins will keynote the event. She currently serves as chairman of the U.S. Senate Aging Committee. Under Collins’ leadership, the committee has focused on many issues that affect older Americans, including fraud, retirement security, support for caregivers, grandparents raising grandchildren, food insecurity, and the importance of robust federal research funding for diseases such as Alzheimer’s and diabetes.

“We are honored to have Senator Collins join us as we celebrate our 45th year of service,” shared Rev. Kenneth Phelps, board president. “The annual meeting provides an opportunity for the organization and community to reflect on our mission, acknowledge the service provided to older people throughout the region and prepare for a new year.”

In addition, the meeting will include election of officers, the year in review, a look into the future and employee service awards.

Refreshments and a social time will start at 9:30 a.m., with the formal meeting at 10. A luncheon will follow at approximately noon. Lunch costs $5 and is payable in advance or at the door.

Seating is limited. RSVP in advance by calling 1 (800) 439-1789 or 764-3396, or by emailing events@aroostookaging.org.
