PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — The Aroostook Medical Center officials are planning six upcoming free seasonal flu shot clinics in the region. The schedule includes three traditional walk-in clinics, including a family one for kids and adults, and three of its popular drive-up clinics.
Those 65 and older will be able to get a free high-dose flu shot.
“We are committed to the health and wellness of our community, which is why we offer these flu shot clinics at no charge. We know firsthand that it makes a difference keeping people healthy during the flu season,” said Dr. Jay Reynolds, TAMC’s senior physician executive.
“With influenza already seen in Maine this season, there is really no reason to delay in getting this protection.”
Flu clinics will be offered at the following locations and times.
Thursday, Oct. 4, Mars Hill Health Center, 4 to 6 p.m. (walk-in clinic).
Saturday, Oct. 13, Caribou Health Center, 9 to 11 a.m. (drive-up clinic).
Saturday, Oct. 13, Fort Fairfield Health Center, 1 to 3 p.m. (drive-up clinic).
Saturday, Oct. 20, Northern Maine Community College in Presque Isle, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. (walk-in clinic), part of the TAMC Health Fair which will offer other free screenings and health information.
Saturday, Oct. 27, Crown Ambulance garage at A.R. Gould Hospital, Presque Isle, 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. (drive-up clinic).
Saturday, Nov. 3, North Street Healthcare, Presque Isle, 9 to 11 a.m. (walk-in clinic). This is a family flu shot clinic; children ages 6 months to 18 years may receive shots at the Aroostook Pediatrics office, while adults can receive theirs at Family Practice and Internal Medicine.
“Getting a flu shot is one of the most important things people can do to remain healthy this fall and winter,” said Linda Foley, TAMC’s manager of infection prevention and policy. “Any side effects are minor and last a very short time, and contrary to what some believe, you cannot get the flu as a result of getting vaccinated.”
