The Carlisle golf team placed 11th out of 15 teams at the Kennebec Valley Athletic Conference Class A championships, on Tuesday, Oct. 2, at the Natanis Arrowhead course in Vassalboro.
Carlisle, which totalled 378 strokes, fell short of qualifying for the state championships as a team, as only the top five teams advanced. Those moving on were Mt. Ararat (318), Camden Hills (322), Edward Little (340), Lewiston (349) and Messalonskee (351).
The Carlisle squad finished ahead of six other teams — Bangor (386), Lawrence (393), Brunswick (406) and Skowhegan (457).
Carlisle is a co-op team made up of golfers from Caribou and Presque Isle. Individually, both schools would compete in Class B, but together they are Class A size. This is the second year for the Carlisle golf team, which is coached by Marc Weeks.
Even though Carlisle failed to qualify for the team tourney, two individuals will be competing in the individual state tourney to be held at Natanis Oct. 13. Presque Isle High School senior Libby Boone shot a 99 to reach the state event for the third consecutive year. She needed to score 100 or better in order to advance.
Gabe Rand, a senior at Caribou High School, also made the cut by posting an 88, two strokes lower than the 90 required. This will be his first year competing in the state individual tourney.
Carlisle’s other scores at the KVAC tourney were: Matthew Hedrich, 93; Seth Roy, 98; Andrew Hewitt, 108; and Jackson Maynard, 110.
