The Chapman Ridge Runners Snowmobile Club held its pilot and crew pancake breakfast in August during the Crown of Maine Balloon Fest. The breakfast was overwhelmingly successful with an overflowing clubhouse. The club thanks everyone who attended.
Now fall is here, which means winter is not far behind. The Ridge Runners are preparing for the new winter season. They released the club’s calendar of events and activities for 2018-2019. The calendar shows its traditional directors’ meeting on the first Tuesday of each month between October and April.
While club members handle business at the meetings, frequently they end as a work night to service equipment or drag trails.
The schedule for October includes an Informational meeting for all members and a directors’ meeting on Oct. 10 at 6:30 p.m. Members will plan their public baked potato and dessert supper scheduled for Oct. 19, 4:30 to 6 p.m. Additionally, initial planning will start for the landowners’ turkey supper scheduled for November.
Another weekly activity starting in October running through May is a crafting/quilting group. They will meet Wednesdays 9 a.m.-2 p.m. at the clubhouse. If you are interested in attending, contact Linda Pelletier at 207-762-3741.
The club encourages members to renew their memberships for the coming year. Also, new membership is available to anyone wishing to join and support the activities of the club. For more information, contact Due Maynard at 764-1236.
Bronze Awards
Three Mapleton Girl Scout Troop 187 Juniors worked hard this summer to earn their Bronze awards. This award is a leadership adventure and the highest honor a Girl Scout Junior can achieve.
While they complete their project, they develop more confidence, meet new people and have the kind of fun that happens when you work with other Girl Scouts to make a difference.
Bobbi Guerrette and Neve Guerrette decided to name their project “Sweet Dreams.” The girls spent time with Jane James at the SAD 1 Adult Education building, and made several pillowcases for the Hope and Justice Program, which they presented on Sept. 21.
The girls also spent time helping collect cereal and food for those in and serving meals with The Summer Gap Feeding Program.
JoLea Robinson focused on helping animals in need. She researched the benefits of spaying and neutering cats and dogs, and after her research she made a poster about the importance of these services. She then made a video asking for the public’s help with donations needed for the Central Aroostook Humane Society cleaning.
After gathering numerous donations, she spent time at the humane society, cleaning cages, playing with the kittens, walking dogs and presenting her donations.
These three girls found a problem in their community and did something about it. The Girl Scout leadership sent congratulations to them for jobs well done to improve their community. The Bronze Award earned by each of them is a reflection of a brighter future they bring everyone around them.
