BANGOR, Maine — Former Caribou High School tennis player Ashley Matlock, who now competes at Husson University, is the choice for Rookie of the Year in the North Atlantic Conference.
Matlock made an immediate impact for an Eagles’ team that posted perfect overall (8-0) and conference (4-0) records.
The first-year health sciences major teamed with all-conference player Meridith Blessard to win all eight of their doubles matches, including the four NAC victories. This ties for the most doubles victories in a season in Husson program history.
Matlock also currently is tied for the best overall win percentage in the history of the tennis program, posting a 14-2 combined record in doubles and singles.
Playing in second singles for most of the season, she stepped up to play in the first position on two occasions.
Matlock was named Rookie of the Week in the conference and was selected to both the all-conference singles and doubles teams.
She is the daughter of Ron and Sharon Matlock of Caribou.
