The Mars Hill Rotary Club met Sept. 21 at 6:30 a.m. at the Aroostook Health Center.
Rotarian Rena Kearney spoke about her two week trip to Alaska this past summer with a tour group. They flew into Anchorage before visiting Denali National Park. They were fortunate to be able to see Mt. McKinley each time it was in sight.
They also visited Nome and took a dog sled ride (on wheels) before going on to Fairbanks. They took a train ride into the gold mine area and were able to pan for gold dust. She had a necklace made from her $12 worth of gold dust.
Other areas they visited were Frasier for a narrow gauge railway ride and Skagway. They then boarded a cruise ship for a four-day trip and saw Glacier Bay National Park and Margerie Glacier. They were also able to see some of the glacier calving or breaking off. Rena brought back a presentation of Glacier Bay that showed the beauty of the area.
