ORIENT, Maine — First responders transported an Orient woman to Houlton Regional Hospital Wednesday following a crash involving a logging truck.
Robert Grass, 32, of Brookton, was northbound on U.S. Route 1 in a 2007 Westernstar tractor trailer that was loaded with logs when the accident happened at about 9:48 a.m., according to Cpl. Dennis Quint of the Maine State Police.
Quint reported that Susan Hanscom, 63, made a left turn from the Deering Lake Road, driving her 2017 Nissan Sedan across the path of the logging truck.

Grass stated he saw Hanscom’s vehicle pull out into the roadway in front of him and tried to stop his truck but was not able to avoid hitting the Nissan, according to the MSP statement released by Quint Wednesday evening.
The corporal said that Hanscom failed to yield the right-of-way by pulling out in front of Grass.
When the two vehicles collided, the truck continued north and Hanscom’s vehicle was spun 180 degrees and came to rest in the ditch.
Grass was not injured in the crash but Hanscom was trapped in her vehicle. Members of the Danforth and Houlton fire departments responded to the scene and used extrication equipment free Hanscom from her sedan.
Emergency personnel from Houlton Ambulance transported her to the hospital to be treated for “serious but non-life threatening injuries,” according to the release.
Hanscom was wearing her seatbelt.
The Nissan was destroyed. The logging truck was inoperable and had to be moved from the roadway and parked in a nearby lot.
The accident remains under investigation.
