PRESQUE ISLE, Maine – James S. McConnell Sr., 93, passed away Thursday morning September 27, 2018, at Presque Isle. He was born December 17, 1924, in Portage Lake, the son of William Sr. and Bernice (Randall) McConnell.
He attended school in Portage Lake and went on to serve his country during WWII with the U.S. Army Air Corps. He enjoyed a thirty-seven year career as a mechanic and foreman with American Airlines. James enjoyed cribbage and was a member of the Presque Isle American Legion Post Number 88.
In addition to his parents, Mr. McConnell was predeceased by two daughters, Betty Ann Munn and Dianne Allen; three brothers, Jack, Robert, and Peter McConnell; one sister, Mary Little. He is survived by two sons, James S. McConnell Jr. and his wife, Cat, of Fremont, CA, William McConnell and his wife, Debbie, of Norman, OK; one daughter Janice Seelig of Tacoma, WA; one stepdaughter, Lynn McCoy and her husband, Tom, of Cedartown, GA; one brother, William McConnell of Presque Isle. He also leaves behind a long time friend, Joanne Garland of Presque Isle; as well as nieces, Nancy Little of Presque Isle and Janice Scribner of Lutz, FL; several grandchildren; and great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
A private family gathering will take place at a later date. Those who wish may contribute in memory of Mr. McConnell to the charity or organization of one’s choice. The McConnell family wishes to extend their sincere gratitude to the staff and residents of Leisure Gardens and Leisure Village for the wonderful care and companionship shown to James during his stay there.
