PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — With three games remaining in the regular season, the Aroostook Huskies are still searching for their first football victory of the fall.
They came close at home on Saturday, Oct. 6, in their battle with the Damariscotta Eagles. The game went back and forth through the first three quarters before the Eagles took control in the late going en route to a 50-33 victory.
Coach Taylor DeFelice said the Huskies “played their hearts out,” but a late turnover and breakdowns in pass coverage were too much to overcome.
Ilijaha Fortes of Presque Isle got the Huskies going with the first touchdown of the game and he ended up with 80 rushing yards. Zaylan Johnston of Mars Hill added a pair of touchdown receptions in the first half and Angel Riopelle of Caribou also made a few catches to extend drives for the home team.
Quarterback Connor Rideout of Presque Isle put together a strong outing with over 100 passing yards and a pair of touchdown throws along with over 50 yards on the ground and another score. He didn’t throw an interception during the game.
Damien Douglass of Washburn came through with some excellent lead blocks and also caught a two-point conversion to aid the offensive attack of the Huskies.
The Huskies fell to 0-5, while Damariscotta improved to 2-3.
