HOULTON, Maine — The Salvation Army is continuing its 150-year tradition of providing assistance to families throughout the year and especially at Christmas.
That assistance extends to those in the Houlton area, according to Frank Nataluk, Envoy/pastor for the Houlton Salvation Army.
“If you, or someone you know lives in the Houlton area and is in need of assistance please bring an I.D. for each member of the family (birth certificate or Medicare or MaineCare Card), proof of residence and income and expenses to see if you may qualify,” Nataluk said.
Aside from providing gifts for families during the holidays, the Houlton Salvation Army also provides assistance with things such as heating fuel, food, and expenses throughout the year.
Applications are available now and interviews will be done 9 a.m. to noon and 1-3 p.m. Monday-Wednesday, Oct. 22-24. Due to limited staff and resources, no applications will be accepted after Oct. 24 without evidence of an emergency.
Supporters wishing to help those in need can call for a Star/Angel Tree information packet. Volunteer bell ringers also are desired Nov. 15 through Dec. 24. Funds raised through the familiar red kettles are vital to The Salvation Army’s programs and services. The charitable organization expects to have more than 120 red kettles throughout the state on street corners and shopping areas through Dec. 24.
