LIMESTONE, Maine — Limestone officials will discuss the appointment of a new town manager during a private, executive session Monday night, according to an agenda sent by interim town manager Tom Stevens.
On Thursday, Stevens said it is not likely that the board will make any announcements following this session regarding the selection of a new manager. Even if a selection is made, the interim manager said that the newly hired manager “may be subject to final employment negotiations.”
“They may come to a consensus,” Stevens said, “but they wouldn’t actually make an announcement until that individual has signed an employment agreement. It’s hard to say, but I don’t think they will be in a position to make an announcement following the executive session.”
Limestone has been without a town manager since Dec. 6 of 2017. Since then, Police Chief Stacey Mahan served as interim manager as well as former Presque Isle City Manager Tom Stevens.
The town received 31 applications for the permanent post and officials have significantly narrowed down the pool to a “very short list,” but Stevens said he is unable to say exactly how many are on the list out of fairness to the applicants.
The board has a regular meeting scheduled for 6:30 p.m. the following Wednesday, Oct. 17, but at this point it is not clear if the matter of hiring a new manager will be discussed during that meeting.
Stevens said he looks forward to the executive session beginning at 7:30 p.m. Monday meeting, and commended the board members for “working hard and diligently in the process.”
