The University of Maine at Presque Isle women’s soccer team has now won two games this season, both coming at the expense of Unity College.
One week after picking up their first victory of the season, a 3-1 home win over Rams, the Owls made the trip south to Unity Sunday and earned a 1-0 victory.
Jordi Legassie scored off a Hannah Nadeau assist 31:30 into the match to record the shutout over Unity on the road Sunday. Alexis Levesque picked up the shutout in goal by saving all seven shots she faced. The win raised UMPI’s record to 2-10 overall
At Castine Saturday against Maine Maritime Academy, the Owls lost, 10-0. The team next plays UM-Farmington Saturday and UM-Fort Kent Sunday, both at home beginning at noon.
The UMPI men’s soccer team is now 4-9-1 after a 2-0 loss to MMA Saturday in Castine. Goalkeeper Caleb Thompson stopped nine shots for UMPI. The Owls are now 1-7-1 over their last nine games entering Wednesday’s home match against Husson University beginning at 3:30 p.m.
The Owls’ volleyball team dropped a pair of 3-0 matches to UM-Fort Kent Saturday at Wieden Gymnasium. In the first match, Miranda Washinawatok had team highs in both kills (nine) and digs (35), while also notching two blocks. Laura Aroz paced the Owls with 16 assists and Devine Hoskie recorded 17 digs.
In the second match, Washinawatok had 10 kills and 23 digs, Aroz 18 assists and Hoskie 27 digs for UMPI. The team will travel to Northern Vermont-Johnson for matches Friday and Saturday.
Mike Boone was the leader for the UMPI golf team in the North Atlantic Conference playoff tournament held Saturday and Sunday in Waterbury, Vermont. The junior from Presque Isle shot a 92 on the first day and a 94 on the second. His two-day total of 186 placed him in a tie for 36th overall.
Teammate Jack Bates carded a 191, good for 47th place. UMPI came in 11th in the team standings.
Coach Christopher Smith’s Owl cross country team was idle over the weekend but will compete a meet Friday in Waterville hosted by Thomas College in Waterville.
