Rebekah delegate — Miss Augusta Kalloch of this village, bookkeeper for Smith & Hoyt, went to Portland as delegate from Aroostook Rebekah lodge to the Rebekah Assembly in this city. She was accompanied by Miss Bessie Duncan, delegate from the Washburn lodge of Rebekahs.
75 Years Ago – October 28, 1943
Chester Kearney opens office — “Bob” Woodworth, of the Woodman Potato Company, returned from Chicago with the news that Chester M. Kearney, a certified public accountant and tax consultant on the staff of Wolf and Company, a nationally known firm of accountants, relocated in Presque Isle, where he wished to establish practice as a tax consultant and as public accountant.
Weinberg is honor student — The Director of the Department of Communications, army Air Forces Central Technical Training Command, Truax Field, Madison, Wisconsin, announced that Pfc. Weinberg, Alvin S., of Presque Isle, not only completed the Radio Operators’ course at this station, but was one of the honor graduates in his class with an average of 86.1.
50 Years Ago – October 16, 1968
Jackson named to head AHSD — Edward M. Jackson of Hallowell was named executive director of Aroostook Health Services Development, Inc. (AHSD) announced by John D. Cameron of Presque Isle, chairman. Jackson, assistant city editor of the Daily Kennebec Journal in Augusta, was the coordinator of AHSD activities in health care planning for the Central Aroostook area.
25 Years Ago – October 27, 1993
New to the bar — Frank Bemis of Presque Isle was sworn in as a lawyer at the Aroostook County Superior Court in Houlton. With him was soon-to-be-fellow lawyer Alan Harding, also of Presque Isle.
Completing the circle — Anderson Giles of Presque Isle, professor of art at the University of Maine at Presque Isle, visited with noted World War II veteran Fred Olivi in Chicago. During the visit, Olivi shared recollections of his mission as co-pilot of the B-29 “Bockscar,” which dropped the atom bomb on Nagasaki, Japan, in August 1945. Giles, whose father was also involved in World War II action and was killed in action in Korea, shook Olivi’s hand for his father.
