Owls eliminated in NAC volleyball tourney

CASTINE, Maine — In the North Atlantic Conference volleyball playoffs Friday, hosted by Maine Maritime Academy, it looked as though the third-seeded UMPI Owls could be headed to an upset over No. 2 SUNY-Canton.

Points by Devine Hoskie and Ashlon Stroub had UMPI in front 20-14 in the first set, but after a time-out, the Kangaroos tallied 11 consecutive points to win and change the tide of the entire match.

SUNY-Canton went on to a 25-20, 25-15 and 25-10 victory.

Laura Aroz finished the match with 12 assists, while Hoskie totaled 16 digs to go along with three kills. Maddie Thweatt had 10 digs and three kills and Miranda Washinawatok recorded 10 digs.

The Owls finished their season with a 10-17 record.
