PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — The Presque Isle Elks, Lodge 1954, will host a free Veterans’ Day dinner for all military veterans, current military service personnel and their spouses on Sunday, Nov. 11, 2018, beginning at 5 p.m., at the lodge, located at 508 Main St.
“As long as there are veterans, the Presque Isle Elks, Lodge 1954, will never forget them,” Presque Isle Elks Exalted Ruler Tai Ireland stated. “For all Elks, November is Elks Veterans Remembrance Month. By directive of Elks Grand Exalted Ruler Michael Luhr, Elks Lodges throughout this country will hold special events in order to honor this nation’s military veterans,” Ireland continued.
The dinner menu will include grilled moose steaks, as well as a variety of moose recipes, chicken stew, ployes, beef stew, homemade baked beans, hot rolls, corn chowder, seafood chowder, chili, fresh biscuits, American chop suey, and a variety of desserts, coffee, tea and soft drinks.
While there is no charge for any military veteran, serviceman or spouse, all others who wish to enjoy the dinner and celebrate veterans may do so for $8 per person. Those who need transportation may call the Elks at 764-0985.
Again this year, military veterans will provide live entertainment throughout the evening. Door prizes for all veterans and current service personnel will be awarded.
“Over Veterans Day weekend and during the entire month of November, Elks will recognize the service of all U.S. military veterans through a wide variety of activities,” Ireland said.
The lodge stocks and maintains a furniture bank for previously homeless veterans who have been assisted in finding a home, and the Elks will join the Veterans of Foreign Wars to provide a Thanksgiving style meal on Nov. 18. Additionally, Ireland said, “The Presque Isle Elks financially support the Northern Maine Veterans Cemetery and assist it in its fundraising activities.”
She concluded, “Throughout the entire year, however, Elks will always be mindful of the sacrifices made by our military Veterans and afford each the courtesies they should enjoy.”
