HOULTON, Maine — The Houlton Middle School Student Council is hosting its annual food drive, “Drive For Possibilities.”

The students are collecting food from all the middle school classrooms until Nov. 16. All the food will be donated to Mildred’s Food Pantry, a nonprofit organization that helps feed local people in need.

“The food drive is a monumental help for families,” explained Brook Chase, an eighth-grader and student council member. “Last year alone they were able to collect an astounding 1,489 items. This year, the student council is having themed weeks to help bring in a higher donation rate and to get more of the types of food the pantry needs.”

The student council also decorated the boxes to help get classrooms into the giving spirit.

“The need for food drives like this one is monumental,” Chase said. “I believe that it is important to be good Samaritans and help our fellow citizens.”
