Two local women, both freshmen, have earned All-American status for their play on the soccer field this past season, while a third, also a freshman, garnered honorable mention.
Hope Shea of Caribou, who plays for the University of Maine at Fort Kent, was selected as a second team Div. I All-American through the United States Collegiate Athletic Association, while Amber Chasse of Ashland, a member of the University of Maine at Machias Clippers, was named to the second team in Div. II and her teammate and first cousin, Morgan Doughty, also of Ashland, gained honorable mention.
Shea scored eight goals and registered one assist for the Bengals, which finished as runners-up at the USCAA Div. I national tournament held over the weekend. They compiled an overall record of 9-5-2 during the season.
Chasse recorded 18 goals and 10 assists for the Clippers, who went 9-8 overall and lost in the semifinals of the Yankee Small College Conference tourney in late-October.
Doughty tallied 10 goals and six assists during the campaign.
