MASARDIS, Maine – Keith H. MacDonald, 86, entered into rest peacefully Monday, November 5, 2018, following a brief illness. He was born November 27, 1931 in Masardis, a son of the late George and Vera (Campbell) MacDonald.
Shortly after graduating from Lee Academy, he married the love of his life, Judie Holmes. He last worked as a self-employed aerial spray pilot for 20 years. Previously Keith worked several years at Big Brook, over 20 years for B&A Railroad as an equipment operator, and a Fire Patrol pilot for the State of Maine. A “jack-of-all-trades,” anything that would keep his hands busy. In addition to flying, he enjoyed fishing and hunting all over the North Woods but especially cherished his time spent with his children, grandson, and babysitting his great-grandsons. Keith was a 50-year member of the Masonic Fraternity and a member of the Anah Shriners.
He is survived by his wife of over 67 years, Judie (Holmes) MacDonald of Masardis; two children, Gail Libby and her husband, Dan, and Nancy Rafford and her husband, Mark, all of Ashland; two siblings, Arnold MacDonald of Front Royal, VA and Beatrice Morin of Meriden, CT; one grandson, Ian Rafford and his companion, Alecia; twin great-grandsons, Jackson and Corbin; and several nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, Keith was predeceased by one brother, Albert MacDonald.
A memorial service will be celebrated at 1 p.m. on Saturday, November 17, 2018, at Union Congregational Church, Sheridan Rd., Ashland. Relatives and friends may greet the family Saturday from 11:30 a.m. until the time of service at the church. Burial will be in Masardis Municipal Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in Keith’s name may be made to a charity of one’s choice. Arrangements are a service of Lajoie Funeral Home, 114 Exchange St.; P.O. Box 39, Ashland, ME.
