PRESQUE ISLE, Maine – Margaret (Peggy) Schopp Erwin, 81, passed away unexpectedly on November 11, 2018. She was born on June 28, 1937 in Eastport, ME, the daughter of Bernard and Barbara (Salisbury) Schopp.
She attended school in Eastport until her junior year when her family moved to Presque Isle. She graduated from Presque Isle High School, class of 1955. She began a career with New England Telephone Co. in 1965 and retired from there in 1994. She was employed as assistant voting registrar for the City of Presque Isle at the time of her death.
She was an active member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, Daughters of Isabella, New England Telephone Co-Pioneers and held many offices in these organizations. She was a volunteer for G.I.F.T. and loved her Thursday afternoon bowling league. She was also an avid card player and Bunco enthusiast.
She is survived by her three children and beloved family, Russell Erwin and his wife, Sharon, of Maryland, Thomas Erwin and his wife, Christy, of Maryland and Barbara (Erwin) Powers and her husband, Thomas, of Presque Isle, a sister, Cathy Walton and her companion, Carl Doughty, of Presque Isle; grandchildren, Chad Erwin, Michael Erwin, Michelle Caveness, Matthew David, Travis Powers, Nicholas Powers, Alyssa George, Ethan George and Emily Erwin; her niece, Kelli Walton Sacher and her husband, Matt, and their children, Caroline and Ben. She leaves behind her beloved cats, Ranger and Ellie, and a special Beagle, Maggie.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 1 p.m. Friday, November 16, 2018, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Parish of the Precious Blood. A reception will follow at the K of C Hall behind the church. Condolences and remembrances may be shared to the family at www.duncan-graves.com.
