PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — The post-season honors continue to pile up for Presque Isle’s Madison Michaud.
The senior striker for the Wildcats’ girls soccer team has been voted Player of the Year for Class B girls in the Penobscot Valley Conference.
“Receiving this award has been really satisfying,” Michaud said. “After all the years of training and practicing, it has paid off and shown in my game throughout the season.”
Michaud scored 36 goals this fall to break her own record of 34, established the previous year. She also scored 25 as a freshman and 27 as a sophomore, for a grand total of 122, which places her fifth all-time for girls in the state.
She was quick to give praise to her Wildcat teammates for their role in her success.
“I’m really honored to have received this, but although it is an individual award, I feel that this is something for my whole team because they all helped me achieve everything I have this season,” Michaud said.
Her team won the Class B North regional championship both last year and this year. Presque Isle totaled 50 victories during Michaud’s four seasons, with 10 of those wins coming in the postseason.
“It’s hard to describe all she did for the Wildcats,” said her coach, Ralph Michaud, “but when we took the field, we always knew we had a chance to win, no matter who we played, because we had the most prolific scorer in school history and she improved every year.”
She owns school records for most goals in a game (6, on two occasions), most playoff goals in a season (7) and most playoff goals in a career (17).
Michaud is a four-time PVC all-conference first team selection and has been an Aroostook League all-star all four seasons. She was named the Butch Shaw Award recipient, which is presented by the Northern Maine Board of Approved Soccer Officials, as a sophomore and again this season.
She also has made the Maine Soccer Coaches All-Region team four years and was All-State and All-New England choice as a junior, with this year’s special MSC awards not yet announced.
