PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — U.S. Sen. Angus King was in Presque Isle recently to share a meal and visit with local sportsmen and women.
The Presque Isle Fish and Game Club’s hunters breakfast kicked off deer hunting season on Sunday, Oct. 27. The annual event brings together sports enthusiasts from around Aroostook County to celebrate their shared love for the Maine outdoors.
“For generations, sportsmen and women from around our state have enjoyed the Maine woods and passed along their love for the outdoors to their children and grandchildren,” King said.
“With outdoor recreation so central to our state’s identity, our economy, and our way of life, it is critical we protect the environment so future generations can enjoy all the beauty Maine has to offer. Whether you love fishing, hunting, hiking, skiing, or snowmobiling, there are so many ways to get outside and see our state,” he added.
“Thanks to the Presque Isle Fish and Game Club for the great breakfast this morning — together we can protect Maine and continue to support our outdoor heritage,” said King.
In the Senate, King is a member of the Energy and Natural Resources (ENR) Committee and has supported the Land and Water Conservation Fund, which has provided funding for the National Parks System and for tens of thousands of state and community conservation projects through the country.
King is the ranking member of the ENR Subcommittee on National Parks and is one of four lead cosponsors of a bipartisan bill that aims to address the $12 billion deferred maintenance backlog at the National Park Service. The ENR committee passed the Restore Our Parks Act last month.
