HOULTON, Maine — After a successful start, the operators of a Houlton food truck are looking to move the business to a permanent location.
While David Tucker and his wife, Crystal Tucker, have been hit with a setback, he said Friday that they are still determined to relocate TNT Takeout to a permanent structure.
During a Town Council meeting in late October, the Tuckers received a victualer’s license to operate TNT Takeout at 135 Military St., which is currently a convenient store called Nana’s Place. Tucker said they had received all of the additional permits necessary to open up shop at the location when the sale of the building fell through.
David Tucker and Eric Nelson opened TNT Takeout as a mobile eatery in June, parking the food truck on Water Street behind Sadie’s Bakery. Customers flocked to the location, purchasing appetizers such as nachos and mozzarella sticks and a variety of hot dogs, burgers, specialty tacos, subs, wraps, salads, fries, milkshakes and desserts.
Tucker said that after seeing the success of their venture, they decided it was time to operate the business year round.
He indicated that he and his wife had planned to redo the inside of Nana’s Place to make it more of an eatery, with indoor seating and some beverages for sale.
He said that Eric Nelson would not be involved in the latest venture, but that the name of the business would not change. He added that they have not yet talked about the future of the food truck and that the Tucker family continued to scout for a new building location.
Cathy O’Leary, town clerk and interim town manager, said Friday that the Tuckers would have to reapply to the town to secure new permits once they find a place for their establishment.
