CARIBOU, Maine — A storm moving up from the southwest is expected to bring heavy snow early Tuesday into Wednesday with total accumulations of 8 to 11 inches forecast for northern and western Maine.
A winter storm warning issued by the National Weather Service is in effect from 1 a.m. Tuesday from 1 a.m. Wednesday for northwestern Aroostook, including Fort Kent and Madawaska, and for northern Somerset and Penobscot counties, including Patten and Millinocket, as well as all of Piscataquis County.
A separate winter storm advisory is in effect for the rest of Aroostook County, as well as for central and southern Penobscot, and for northern Washington County with a forecast of 3 to 5 inches from late Monday night through about 4 p.m. Tuesday.
Localized amounts of 9 to 11 inches are possible west of Route 11 and Interstate 95, according to Meteorologist Mark Bloomer of the National Weather Service in Caribou.
Mainers in the affected areas should expect difficult travel conditions, including during the morning commute on Tuesday, he said. Significant reductions in visibility are possible.
