Mapleton Girl Scout Troop 187, joined by some community members, held a vigil with Girl Scouts nationwide on Nov. 10 to remember the three Girl Scouts and a Mom/volunteer who tragically died the previous week in Wisconsin. The girls also remembered the one girl who survived the accident and is continuing to recover from her injuries.
On the table in the Mapleton Gazebo, photos of the Wisconsin girls and mom helped the Mapleton group contemplate the tragedy of their deaths. As part of their vigil they also collected non-perishable food to help fill the Mapleton Community Cupboard.
During the vigil, soft music played in the background as troop leader Amanda Robinson said a few words about the girls. Together all recited the Girl Scout Law. The last line says, “We are to be a sister to every Girl Scout.”

“And that is why we held this vigil,” Robinson said. “We may not have known these girls, but they are each one of our sisters. These girls were out doing community service and a tragic accident took them from their families and friends.”
Attending the vigil were JoLea Robinson, Ellie Crowe, Lilly Dean, Kobee Jordan, Shelby Robinson, Hattie Cogswell, Bobbi Guerrette, Victoria Beaulieu, Sidney Beaulieu, Lisa Dean, Marcia Cogswell, Jamie Guerrette, Ryan Guerrette, and Amanda Robinson.
Senior luncheon
On Monday, Dec. 3, at 11:30 a.m., the Mapleton, Chapman and Castle Hill Senior Citizens group will hold their next meeting.
Caroline Ballerstein reminds everyone over age 55, you are invited to attend and join the group. Please keep in mind the luncheon is potluck that is enjoyed by all who attend because the food is really great.
Snowmobile Club events
The Chapman Ridge Runners Snowmobile Club will have its monthly directors’ meeting at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 5, at the clubhouse in Chapman.
There will be a Yankee Swap as well as a discussion of the club’s fundraising auction to be held in January.
Town Office News
Rabies clinic: There will be a rabies clinic at the Presque Isle Animal Hospital on Dec. 1, 2018, from 1 to 2 p.m.
Dog registration: The Town Office is now registering dogs for 2019. Come in and register before Jan. 31 and beat the $25 late fee.
