After just two games, Emily Wheaton’s freshman season on the Husson University basketball team has come to an end.

The Mapleton native and 2018 Presque Isle High School graduate suffered what her father, David, called “a significant knee injury” that will force her to miss the remainder of the 2018-19 season.

Emily Wheaton is a 5-5 guard, majoring in elementary education. She averaged 7.5 points and 4 rebounds in the two contests she played for coach Kissy Walker’s team.

David Wheaton said he is hoping that his daughter will be granted a full medical hardship waiver, meaning she would still have four years of athletic ability upon her recovery.

“She is hopeful for a return to the court next season,” said David Wheaton.

At Presque Isle High School, Emily Wheaton was a 1,000-point career scorer and was a finalist for the Maine Miss Basketball Award as a senior after averaging 21.5 points, 4.7 assists and 4.1 rebounds per game. She was named the Class B North tournament MVP and the Big East Conference Player of the Year.
