Presque Isle’s Griffin Guerrette turned in his best game as a collegiate player Tuesday, hitting all six of his field goal attempts en route to a 19-point total, to lead the UMPI Owls to an 86-59 victory over Rivier University in Nashua, New Hampshire.
Coach Dan Kane’s squad also recorded a 93-69 win over Unity College at home Saturday to improve its season record to 4-5.
Guerrette, a freshman, made the most of his 18 minutes of court time against the Rivier Raiders. He was 3 for 3 from beyond the 3-point line and connected on 4 of 6 free throw attempts, while also grabbing four rebounds.
Shyquinn Dix added 11 points and 11 boards. DeAndre Duncombe tossed in 16 points and Te’Von Hines netted 12 points for the Owls.
Against Unity at Wieden Gym, Hines poured in 22 points and Duncombe and Jahvion Lockridge had 12 each. KJ Minter had 11 rebounds and Lockridge seven for the winners, who are now 4-5 overall. Hunter Engel’s 23 points were tops for the Rams.
Just seven games into the season, the Owl women have now already surpassed their win total from last year. UMPI moved to 4-3 following a 69-17 rout over Unity Saturday at Wieden Gymnasium.
Hunter Mercier put together a huge offensive outing for Coach Gavin Kane’s team by hitting 5 of her 6 attempts from 3-point land and ending with 17 points. Rhylee Wright contributed 16 points and seven rebounds and Sara Musselman put in 10 points and grabbed six rebounds. Marissa Valdivia-Reagle had six points and six rebounds for UMPI.
Samantha Jalkowski’s 11 points paced Unity.
The UMPI teams close out fall semester action with road games Tuesday, Dec. 11, at UM-Fort Kent (women’s game at 5 p.m., followed by the men’s at 7 p.m.), followed by home contests Friday, Dec. 14, against UM-Machias (men’s game at 5:30 p.m., women’s at 7:30 p.m.).
