A Dover, New Hampshire, circuit court judge sentenced a Caribou, Maine, native to five years in federal prison for robbing a credit union in New Hampshire, according to a press release issued Dec. 12 by U.S. Attorney Scott W. Murray.
Court documents state that 31-year-old Marc Beaulieu entered the Service Credit Union in Somersworth, N.H., in November 2016 and gave the teller a note demanding money. The teller gave him money that included a packet of bait bills, according to the press release.
Surveillance video captured Beaulieu fleeing the bank and entering a vehicle. Police also got video from a nearby convenience store showing Beaulieu putting on a camouflage jacket worn in the robbery. He was arrested a few days later.
Beaulieu pleaded guilty in April.
According to Bangor Daily News archives, the Caribou native also had been accused of robbing a Dover, N.H., market at knifepoint in October 2012. Police there charged him with felony robbery, but the disposition of that case was not immediately available Friday.
Prosecutors told the judge during his arraignment in Dover Circuit Court in late October 2012 that Beaulieu, then 25, faced multiple other charges in New Hampshire and had been arrested numerous times that year, including in February on charges of violation of probation or parole, in June on an allegation of receiving stolen property, and in August for allegedly endangering the welfare of a child.
Beaulieu’s past criminal history includes charges of falsifying physical evidence, shoplifting, simple assault, possession of controlled drugs, indecent exposure, and driving under the influence, among others, according to the prosecutors.
During that arraignment, Beaulieu told the judge that he was originally from Maine and was in the area to be closer to his daughter.
“But I can’t seem to stay out of trouble and I’m hanging out with the wrong people,” he said. “I’m from Caribou, Maine, and I haven’t gotten in any trouble up there and that’s where I need to get back up to at some point.”
