CARIBOU, Maine — The Caribou boys and the Madawaska girls were the winning teams at the first Nordic ski meet of the season, a freestyle competition, held Wednesday, Dec. 19, at Caribou High School.
Caribou’s 17 points were the low total on the boys’ side, with Fort Kent coming in with 36 points and Madawaska 37.
The Madawaska girls prevailed by scoring a meet low 19 points. Fort Kent was the runner-up with 34, followed by Ashland with 41, Caribou with 57 and Presque Isle with 80.
The boys’ individual winner was Miguel Sanclemente of Fort Kent, whose winning time was 14 minutes and 39 seconds. Sam Bosse of Madawaska was second in 15:09, followed by Caribou skiers Dakota Yakel (15:17) and Carter Belanger (15:34). Rounding out the top five was Justin Pelletier of Madawaska (15:50).
Dane Driscoll led Ashland by placing 19th and Ezra Leach, the Presque Isle Wildcats’ lone skier, was 26th.
For girls, Isabelle Jandreau eased to the victory with a time of 15:18, which was 1:52 ahead of runner-up Dolcie Tanguay of MSSM. Kasie Blanchette was third in 17:30, with Kassandra Nelson of Ashland taking fourth (18:20) and Jessica Halsey of Fort Fairfield fifth (18:46).
Macy Wakem paced Caribou by taking seventh place and Amanda Winslow was 16th and led the way for the Wildcats.
Twenty seven boys and 37 girls competed in the meet.
