AUGUSTA, Maine — The Maine Warden Service has announced its selection of Corporal Mike Joy to replace a sergeant vacancy in Aroostook County, created by the recent promotion of Lt. Dan Menard.
Game Warden Cpl. John MacDonald said in a press release that Joy began his career with the Maine Warden Service in 1993 and has patrolled districts ranging from Daaquam to Kittery, arguably the least and most populated areas of Maine.
In 2009, Joy was promoted from game warden to corporal to lead the Maine Warden Service Dive Team.
“Corporal Joy’s service to the MWS Dive Team has been nothing short of exemplary,” stated MacDonald in the release. During his tenure, Joy secured grants for a remotely operated underwater vehicle, underwater dive computers, ambient breathing valves for AGA masks, and a new dive boat.
“Corporal Joy’s strong leadership has resulted in a team that operates with a high level of expertise and professionalism,” MacDonald said. The team is often used as a model for other states across the United States.
In addition to the Dive Team, Joy has served as a field training officer, color guard member, and is currently the Division A (southern Maine) Airboat Team leader. The experience Joy has gained over his 25-plus years of service will serve his section well as he starts the next chapter of his career.
Joy currently resides in the Kittery district with his wife and two sons, and will begin as the Section 15 sergeant on Dec. 30.
