Nordic skiers from Aroostook schools compete in Madawaska

MADAWASKA, Maine — The third Nordic ski meet of the season was held Thursday, Jan. 3, and the host Owls notched victories in both the boys and girls competitions. 

Caribou was second and Fort Kent third in the boys’ event and Fort Kent was second and Caribou third for girls.

Ashland, MSSM and Presque Isle were the other squads participating.

Miguel Sanclemente of Fort Kent had the fastest time in the boys’ race, finishing in 17 minutes and 8.7 seconds.

Dakota Yakel of Caribou was the runner-up, followed by Justin Pelletier of Madawaska, Samuel Bosse of Baker Brook, New Brunswick, and Carter Belanger of Caribou.

Clark Condon led Ashland by placing 20th overall. Ezra Leach, who was 25th in the standings, was PI’s lone competitor and Justin Pelletier of MSSM came in 26th overall.

Madawaska’s Isabelle Jandreau, who came in at 18:46.4, set the pace in the girls’ event. MSSM’s Dolcie Tanguay was next, with Kassandra Nelson of Ashland, Macy Wakem of Caribou and Emma Pelletier of Madawaska taking the third, fourth and fifth positions.

Jessica Halsey of Fort Fairfield was 10th overall and Amanda Winslow of Presque Isle placed 16th.
