The Caribou boys continued their rise up the Class B North standings with four consecutive victories, defeating Ellsworth, Foxcroft Academy, Fort Kent and Maine Central Institute during a recent eight-day stretch.
The Viking boys, ranked second in the division as of Monday, next take on No. 9 Presque Isle (6-3) in the first of their two regular season meetings. This one is slated for Wednesday at 7 p.m. on the Wildcats’ home floor.
The Caribou girls were able to pick up their first win of the season by besting Fort Kent Thursday, but lost their other three contests.
Meanwhile, the Fort Fairfield girls kept up their torrid start to the season by winning two more games to move to 8-0.
Summaries of several games played between Dec. 28 and Jan. 5 are as follows:
Boys
Caribou 72, Maine Central Institute 51 — The Vikings avenged one of their early-season losses at home Saturday. For the winners, Parker Deprey and Austin Findlen each scored 20 points, while Sawyer Deprey and Alex Bouchard were also in double figures with 14 and 12, respectively.
Fort Fairfield 73, Hodgdon 52 — Juniors Dawson Watson and Chase Griffeth both hit five 3-pointers in the Tigers win on Friday at Hodgdon. Watson notched a career-high 30 points and Griffeth had 19 for Fort Fairfield.
Ashland 44, Washburn 39 — Dylan Haley’s 24 points helped the Hornets win for the first time this season Thursday in Ashland. Zakk Tracy scored nine points for the Beavers.
Caribou 57, Fort Kent 54 — The Vikings held off the Warriors at home Jan. 2, with Austin Findlen leading the offense with 19 points and Parker Deprey tallying 13 and Alex Bouchard 11.
Fort Fairfield 61, Wisdom 39 — The Tigers outscored Wisdom in the second quarter, 25-5, and went on to the home win Jan. 2. Wyatt Keegan scored 15, Colby Langner 12 and Kobe West 10 for Fort Fairfield.
Caribou 85, Foxcroft Academy 64 — Thanks to a season-high total in points, the Vikings won the Dec. 31 home game over the Ponies. All five Caribou starters were in double figures in scoring, as Parker Deprey paced Caribou with 23 points, Isaac Marker had 21, Austin Findlen 15, Sawyer Deprey 13 and Alex Bouchard 11.
Easton 62, Washburn 31 — The Bears’ road victory on Dec. 31 was fueled by Austin Carver’s 17-point performance. Patrick Saucier and Beckham Vaughn were Washburn’s high scorers with seven each.
Fort Fairfield 61, Washburn 39 — The Tigers claimed the win Dec. 29 in Washburn as Dawson Watson tallied 20 points and Colby Langner 16 to lead the offensive attack. Aidan Churchill’s 11 points paced the Beavers.
Caribou 70, Ellsworth 56 — The Vikings began their winning streak by putting together a strong second half at Ellsworth Dec. 28. Parker Deprey’s 23 points were tops for Caribou, while Isaac Marker netted 12.
Girls
Fort Kent 35, Washburn 33 — The Warriors avenged an early-season loss to the Beavers, winning Saturday’s game at Fort Kent behind Desirae Hafford’s 15 points. Kassie Farley totaled 26 for Washburn.
Maine Central Institute 40, Caribou 36 — The Vikings made a strong fourth-quarter comeback, outscoring MCI 15-8, but fell short at home Saturday. Alexis Rodriguez was the lone Caribou player in double figures, posting 13 points.
Caribou 45, Fort Kent 34 — Caribou won for the first time this season behind Alexis Rodriguez and Sage Dubay, who netted 11 points each. The Vikes held Fort Kent to just three points in the final quarter.
Washburn 52, Ashland 40 — Four players hit double figures for the Beavers Thursday in the triumph at Ashland. Raegyn Chavez hit four 3-pointers and tallied 15 to lead the way, while Kyli Farley (13), Kassie Farley (12) and Emma Johnston (10) were the other top scorers. Jamie Poulin tossed in 10 for the Hornets.
Fort Fairfield 70, Wisdom 30 — The Tigers stayed hot by thrashing the Pioneers Jan. 2 in Fort Fairfield. Twelve players scored points for the Tigers, with Amber Sherwood’s 19 and Brenna LeVasseur’s 10 leading the charge.
Foxcroft Academy 43, Caribou 38 — The Ponies led at all the quarter breaks to take the New Year’s Eve contest in Caribou. Renee Stubbs led the Vikings with 11 points.
Fort Fairfield 43, Shead 32 — In a battle of the Tigers Dec. 29, host Fort Fairfield prevailed behind freshman Camryn Ala’s 11 points.
Ellsworth 41, Caribou 26 — The Eagles came out on top in the Dec. 28 game in Ellsworth. Scoring details were not available.
