PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — The Presque Isle Middle School eighth-grade boys’ basketball team enjoyed a season to remember, going 11-0 overall and 6-0 in Aroostook League play to capture the title.
“This team was a true complete team, with players who understood the value of playing as a team, hard work, being coachable, playing with good sportsmanship, staying together, playing and practicing hard, and being able to adjust to many different situations that opposing teams would try to do to them defensively,” said head coach Tim Olore.
He said his team played a running and pressing style of basketball that was relentless and put lots of pressure on the opponents.
Malachi Cummings was the leading scorer, averaging 17.4 points per game. Brayden Castonguay came in with a 12.5 ppg scoring average and Kaden Tardif contributed 8.3 ppg.
Other scorers were Michael Langley (55 points), Dawson Beaulieu (51), Jack Hallett (31), Gavin Tawfull (15), Ben Beaulieu (12), Rylee Chasse (10), Brady Roy (7), Brody Smith (5) and Elijah Mondello (4).
The Wildcats averaged 58.4 ppg and allowed 35 ppg.
Zander Gallagher-Easler was the team’s manager.
“This team was awesome to coach and very fun to watch play,” Olore added. “From day one until the end, this team really improved in all phases of the game. Our goal was to be champions and it was achieved.”
