WASHBURN, Maine — Kassandra Farley achieved a major milestone in Thursday’s 48-24 loss at Madawaska.
The senior guard for the Beavers’ girls basketball team connected on a layup with approximately one minute to play in the third quarter to put her at 1,000 points for her career.
She finished with 13 points and stands at 1,002 heading into Monday’s home game against Van Buren.

Farley said she had no idea she was even approaching the mark, so was surprised when the buzzer sounded and play was stopped after she made the basket.
“At first, I thought everyone was excited that we finally scored again, then my sister [Kyli] came over and gave me a hug and had me look at the crowd,” Farley said. “That’s when I realized what had happened.”
Jon Poisson has been Farley’s head coach the past two seasons and said she possesses “an extremely high basketball IQ and is someone very dedicated to her craft.”
“She is a great scorer and sees the floor extremely well,” Poisson said. “She brings great leadership and does a little bit of everything for us, and the offense runs through her. A lot is asked of Kassie and she steps up and delivers.”
Farley becomes the eighth girls’ basketball player in Washburn District High School history to reach 1,000 points, and the 19th player overall.
Other girls who have hit the milestone are Glenda Fox (in 1981), Dawn Oldmixon (1986), Kim Richardson (1986), Amy O’Donnell (1995), Rebecca Campbell (2011), Carmen Bragg (2014) and Kenzie Worcester (2015).
