PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — Tuesday’s classic ski race at the Nordic Heritage Center saw a pair of familiar individual winners and the rise of a girls’ team not accustomed to finishing on top.
Miguel Sanclemente of Fort Kent and Isabelle Jandreau of Madawaska took their usual positions at the top of the standings on Jan. 8, with Sanclemente taking the boys’ race by a margin of 26 seconds and Jandreau winning the girls’ competition by just over 32 seconds.
Caribou, with skiers in the fourth, fifth, sixth and seventh positions, captured the victory in the boys’ team competition. Ashland, with four skiers tucking into the overall top 10, picked up first place on the girls’ side.

In the boys’ event, Sanclemente won in 15 minutes and 58 seconds. MSSM’s Harrison Walters was the runner-up in 16:24 and Madawaska’s Justin Pelletier was third in 16:37.
The Vikings took the next four slots, led by Carter Belanger in 16:38, Malachai Willey in 17:07, Tommy Pinette in 17:17 and Kyle Boucher in 17:25.
Dane Driscoll was 14th overall for Ashland in 19:13. Ezra Leach of Presque Isle took 25th in 24:07.02.
On the girls’ side, Jandreau had the winning time of 18:03.65 and Dolcie Tanguay of MSSM followed in 18:36.36. Next was the first of four Hornet skiers in the top 10 as Kassandra Nelson cruised to a time of 19:58.08. She was followed by teammates Willow Hall (20:22.38) and Lacey Jandreau (20:45.18).
Mya Eno paced Fort Kent by taking sixth in 20:55.68. Jessica Halsey of Fort Fairfield, who trains with MSSM, was seventh in 21;09.97.
Amanda Winslow was the fastest Presque Isle skier, coming in 17th overall in 22:35.21. Macy Wakem was tops for Caribou, grabbing the 18th position in 22:50.34.
