
ELLSWORTH, Maine — Presque Isle placed third and Caribou fifth out of 10 teams competing in the Big East Conference cheering championships held Saturday at Ellsworth High School.
Presque Isle scored 64.8 points, behind only the champion, Hermon (83.2), and the runners-up and host Eagles (69.1).
Old Town was fourth with 61.9 points, followed by the Vikings with 48.1.
MDI, John Bapst, Orono, Washington Academy and Foxcroft Academy rounded out the list of teams competing.
Presque Isle and Caribou will next participate in the Penobscot Valley Conference championships, to be held Saturday at Hermon High School.
The regional championships are at the Cross Insurance Center in Bangor Jan. 26 and the top teams in each class from that event will qualify for the state championships, set for the Augusta Civic Center Feb. 9.
