AUGUSTA, Maine — Aroostook County business, municipal and other leaders will have a chance to interact with many of Maine’s lawmakers as the Aroostook Partnership has set the date for Aroostook Day at the Legislature.
Now a biennial gathering, Aroostook Day is set for Tuesday, Feb. 5, at the Senator Inn in Augusta from 5 to 7:30 p.m.
In recent years, AP shared key topic areas, initiatives and best practices in Aroostook County with legislators and others attending the event. AP President and CEO Paul Towle indicated all were well received and have demonstrated innovation, efficiency and forward thinking, leaving a positive impression on the many great things happening in northern Maine.
“The 2019 edition of Aroostook Day at the Legislature will take this concept a step further and provide tangible and actionable next steps for decision and policy makers in the room,” said Towle. “Our intent is to explore key efforts happening in The County around the areas of promoting greater workforce participation, advancing the natural resource-based economy, and collaboration and smart growth for the region.”
Towle added after presenters have spoken, related pieces of legislation will be highlighted with an overview of the impact to help inform the lawmakers on why it is important to support the bill or be mindful of how it might hurt The County’s regional economy and way of life.
Jason Parent, who chairs the AP Legislative Engagement Committee and is an organizer of the event, added it is vital for Aroostook County voices to be heard in Augusta.
“I have not missed an Aroostook Day at the Legislature in two decades,” Parent said. “Over that time, regardless of what organization I represented, the event has provided a meaningful relationship-building opportunity with members of the Aroostook County legislative delegation and other state leaders who have attended over the years.
“Beyond that, it provides a key opportunity to hear about the many meaningful and impressive initiatives happening across our region and to gain a true appreciation for how unified and strong a region we are.”
