County natives Webb, Sjoberg, Morris named Maine Sports Legends

PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — Three Aroostook County natives are among those to be honored as Maine Sports Legends later this summer. 

The Northern Region of the Maine Sports Legends announced Wednesday that Pete Webb, Kevin Sjoberg and G. Caroline Morris will be honored during the Maine Sports Legends ceremony June 23 in Brewer.

Webb, a native of Houlton who played basketball for the Shires and also at Ricker College, has been has been the state’s commissioner of basketball for the last quarter-century and involved in basketball for almost 60 years. Webb retired from his post as commissioner of basketball last June.

Sjoberg is the long time sports editor of the Aroostook Republican and The Star-Herald. He started there in 1993, and aside from taking a couple of years off to be a stay-at-home dad, has been responsible for covering area youth sports in the greater Presque Isle and Caribou area for 26 years. He also is very involved in several youth activities.

Morris, a native of Ashland, will be honored posthumously. She worked for many years in the Ashland school system where she was a teacher and coach.
