PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — Presque Isle police officers arrested several individuals on Friday evening after obtaining a search warrant for a home located at 36 Oak St., where they believed stolen property was located.

In a press release issued by the Presque Isle Police Department, Chief Laurie Kelley states that officers applied for and obtained a search warrant for the home after investigating and “establishing probable cause” that there were stolen merchandise there along with the suspects of two recent thefts.

At 8 p.m. Friday evening, officers arrested the alleged suspects as well as another individual that they found to be in possession of heroin, who also had four unrelated active arrest warrants. The alleged thieves were charged with unauthorized taking or transfer of the merchandise.

The Presque Isle Police Department received assistance from the Van Buren Police Department K9 Unit, the Aroostook County’s Sheriff’s Office and the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency. Officials from the Presque Isle Police Department stated on Saturday that no further information on the alleged suspects or the nature of their arrests would be released.

Recently the home on 36 Oak St. had received public attention during a Presque Isle City Council meeting after several residents of Oak Street and the nearby State Street as well as Kelley spoke of their concerns about the alleged drug activity taking place there.

At the time Kelley stated that the police department had been monitoring the neighborhood and home for many years. Other incidents there have included the arrest of the home’s owner Dustin McGillan, who is currently serving time in prison on drug-related charges, and a shooting in May 2018 that allegedly involved 36-year-old Bobby L. Nightingale, who turned himself into police eight days later.
