The Madawaska boys and the Fort Kent girls were victorious at a ski meet with a Nordic cross format on Jan. 22 at the Fort Kent Outdoor Center.
Just three teams competed, with Madawaska scoring 789 points, Fort Kent coming in with 779 and Ashland posting 381 in World Cup scoring on the boys side. For the girls, Fort Kent led the way with 782, while Madawaska had 778 and Ashland 581.
The individuals who have been winning meets all season continued their streaks. Miguel Sanclemente of Fort Kent won the boys’ race in 12 minutes and 42.9 seconds, which was just under 10 seconds ahead of teammate Samuel Bosse (12:52.8). Justin Pelletier of Madawaska was third in 13:41.6. Dane Driscoll paced Ashland by taking ninth place overall in 16:22.8.
For the girls, Isabelle Jandreau of Madawaska won with a time of 13:45.6. Kassandra Nelson of Ashland was the runner-up in 15:45.5 and Mya Eno of Fort Kent was third in 16:36.2.
The girl Hornets, who had won the previous two Aroostook County meets, were short handed in this one, with just three team members participating.
The previous Tuesday, Jan. 15, Ashland hosted with the girls coming out in first as a team. Jandreau was the individual champ in the five-kilometer classic-style race in 21:46, with Dolcie Tanguay of MSSM placing second in 22:15 and Nelson taking the third spot in 23:35.
Willow Hall of Ashland was fourth in 24:38 and Jessica Halsey of Fort Fairfield was fifth in 24:51.
Macy Wakem of Caribou was 13th in 26:58 and Amanda Winslow of Presque Isle was 17th in 29:10.
The Madawaska boys outscored the competition, posting 26 points, just ahead of Caribou’s 27. Sanclemente won in 19:28. Madawaska’s Pelletier was second in 20:06 and Harrison Walters of MSSM placed third in 20:07,
Carter Belanger and Tommy Pinette, both of the Vikings, were fourth and fifth, respectively. Belanger’s time was 20:32 and Pinette’s was 20:38.
Driscoll came in 14th place in 22:54 and PI’s Ezra Leach was 30th in 31:14.
