Easton School Department hosts Cancer Awareness Night

At “The Barn” in Easton on Thursday, Feb. 7, the Easton Bears will host the Fort Fairfield Tigers in the final boys basketball game of the season.
Longtime sports official, coach, game announcer and sports talk radio show host David DeMerchant has been diagnosed with stage 4 kidney cancer and will begin treatment under the direction of the Dana–Farber Cancer Institute in Boston. Dave is one of the longest-standing sports officials in the state in basketball, soccer, baseball and softball. He has coached in Easton and officiated literally hundreds of our athletic contests at every level.

We are taking this opportunity to support Dave and his family and let him know that “The Bears” are with him on this difficult journey. The Easton School Department and community will raise funds at the Easton vs. Fort Fairfield game to help Dave and his family with medical expenses. There will be donation jars available and 50/50 tickets will also be sold, with the winning ticket capped at $50 in order to maximize the amount towards the “Dollars for Dave” effort.

Congratulations to Odin Perry and Madison Bridges, the Students of the Quarter for the second quarter at Easton Elementary School. (Courtesy of Hillary Hallett)

Orange is the color representative of kidney cancer, and fans who wish may wear something orange to demonstrate support.
