To help the Central Aroostook Humane Society celebrate February’s World Spay Day, the Central Aroostook Humane Society invites local youth to join in a fun coloring contest for kids and an essay competition for teens. Forms can be found on our Facebook page.
Let’s hear it for our youth animal lovers. If you are in grades 6-12 and want to participate in our World Spay Day essay contest this year, we would love to have you. All you need to do is write an essay of 1,200 words or less on: Why is it important to spay and neuter our pets? What impact does it have on our pets? What impact does it have on our community?
Applicants can send their essays by Feb. 26 to the Central Aroostook Humane Society, 24 Cross Street, Presque Isle ME 04769, or email entries to CAHSspaydaycontest@ gmail.com.
For toddlers on up through kids in grade 8, the World Spay Day coloring contest is open, so get your friends or your daycare in on the fun, too. Just print the entry form from our Facebook Page and the coloring sheet, have fun coloring, and mail or e-mail them to the addresses above. The coloring contest deadline is also Feb. 26.
Prizes will be awarded — happy coloring.
Every dog starts life with a blank canvas, his destiny etched by the hands of the painter, and each one an artist’s original. The portrait painted depends on how the brush is held. Paint with hostility, and a dog learns to fight. Paint with cruelty, and a dog learns fear. Paint with anger, and a dog learns aggression.
Paint with praise, and a dog learns confidence. Paint with boundaries, and a dog learns respect. Paint with tenderness, and a dog learns to bond. Paint with affection, and a dog learns to love.
Every dog is a product of its environment. Bad dogs are not born, they are created. If the portrait is flawed, look to the artist. So please, stop blaming the dogs.
