To the editor:
A smile or a word of appreciation from someone can turn a tough day into a sweet day. I was in downtown Caribou in a parking lot thinking to myself, “If one more thing goes wrong today, I am just going to …” when a knock came on the passenger side window.
The face looked familiar but I couldn’t put a name to it. I rolled the window down wondering what or where I had messed up, obviously feeling quite discouraged. When the man asked if I was Norma Milton, I mentally prepared to take the next train out of town, but instead I admitted that I was that person.
“I just want to say thank you and give you a gift for the cats,” he said, holding out a $20 bill. He explained that both he and his wife strongly support the efforts of Halfway Home Pet Rescue, and mentioned that they bring stuff to our Second Chance Thrift Store as well as contribute in other ways.
When he left, I sat for a moment and just thanked God for giving me this message of love. Instead of discouragement, I now felt pleasantly energized.
The 47 dedicated volunteers of Halfway Home Pet Rescue and the Second Chance Thrift Store are the ones who merited this appreciation for all that they do for these homeless animals. I am just a voice for the volunteers and the animals. I sincerely thank Jim Doody and his wife, Judy, for having made my tough day much brighter. Love and appreciation from the cats we save is our reward, but this word of kindness from an animal lover was a delightful bonus.
