AUGUSTA and CARIBOU, Maine — State Rep. John DeVeau (R-Caribou) will serve on the Joint Standing Committee on Judiciary.
“One of the reasons why I’m excited to serve on this committee is because there is a lot we can do in the next two years to make improvements where necessary, and to take a deeper dive into many important areas of law such as property rights and Maine’s response to domestic violence,” said DeVeau.
The committee will be responsible for reviewing all new bills relating to a number of areas, some of which are judicial system organization and budget; criminal procedure; civil procedure; child protection; family law; child support; adoption; constitutional rights; abortion regulation and reproductive rights; civil rights; eminent domain; laws relating to Maine’s Indian Tribe; and freedom of access.
DeVeau serves on the Pines Health board of directors, United Veterans of Maine and previously spent 14 years in the U.S. Army with two deployments to Iraq. He serves House District 149, which includes the towns of Caribou, New Sweden and Westmanland.
