BANGOR, Maine — The Southern Aroostook High School Warriors from Dyer Brook captured their second straight Class D schoolgirl basketball championship with an impressive 55-30 victory over Greenville at the Cross Insurance Center in Bangor Saturday afternoon.
Sydney Brewer had 14 points and five rebounds and Makaelyn Porter notched 13 points to lead the 20-2 Warriors. Kassidy Mathers had seven points and Kacy Daggett added six to go with five rebounds.
Halle Pelletier, Jessica Pomerleau and Tiegan Murray had nine points apiece for 15-7 Greenville.
The Warriors reeled off a 14-0 run in the first quarter to build a 16-5 lead and they took a 29-14 lead into the intermission.
Their pressure defense forced the Lakers into 10 first-half turnovers.
Southern Aroostook also had impressive scoring balance as four of its five starters had at least five points led by Porter’s seven and Brewer’s six.
A Brewer free throw that triggered the 14-0 run was her 1,000th career point.
Brewer had six points in the first half and Mathers had five as did Vining.
