MAPLETON, Maine — A crash involving two vehicles on Main Street in Mapleton Monday injured three people, including one who rescue personnel transported to the hospital for treatment, according to the Aroostook County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies responded to the accident shortly after 11:30 a.m. Monday and found one injured passenger who needed to be extricated from a vehicle.

According to the sheriff’s office, James Laplante, 46, of Chapman, was driving eastbound on Main Street in a 2009 Saturn Outlook with a passenger, 45-year-old Danielle Laplante.

The Laplante’s were making a left hand turn into the parking lot of a local business when they collided with Carl Nemer, 28, of Ashland, who was heading west in a  2015 GMC Sierra.

Both drivers were injured but refused medical attention, while Danielle Laplante was extricated from the Outlook by firefighters from the Mapleton, Castle Hill and Chapman Fire Department. She was taken by Crown Ambulance to Northern Light AR Gould Hospital in Presque Isle with “serious but not life-threatening injuries,” according to the sheriff’s office.

All of the occupants were wearing seatbelts. The vehicles were so damaged they needed to be towed from the scene.
