Rep. David McCrea, D-Fort Fairfield, presents a legislative sentiment to Presque Isle High School freshman Danica Haskell on March 8. Haskell, 15, was named a distinguished finalist for 2019 by The Prudential Spirit of Community Awards, a nationwide program honoring young people for outstanding acts of volunteerism. Haskell has volunteered at the Central Aroostook Humane Society shelter since 2013, and has since donated about 250 hours of her time cleaning the facilities and socializing pets. She started her service to prepare for getting a dog, and has also supported the shelter through fundraising and birthday gifts, recruiting friends to help, too. (Contributed)
