Producers plan tours, more for 36th Maine Maple Sunday

AROOSTOOK COUNTY, Maine — Maple producers from across Aroostook County will join the Maine Maple Producers Association and licensed sugarhouses across the state to mark the 36th annual Maine Maple Sunday this weekend.

Though Maine Maple Sunday is March 24, many sugaring operations will be open Saturday, March 23, as well, hosting such activities as sugarbush and sugarhouse tours, demonstrations, taffy on snow, samples and more.

The Maine Maple Producers Association lists the following Aroostook County participants.

Bridgewater: Bradbury Maple Farm, 202 Bootfoot Rd. Open March 23-April 14.

Eagle Lake: Northwoods Nectar, 1426 Sly Brook Rd. Open March 23 and 24, 11 a.m.-4 p.m.

Easton: The Maple Moose, 28 Bowers Rd. 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Open March 23-April 14.

Reed: Sunny Crest Maple Farm, 334 Main St.

Smyrna: Spring Break Maple & Honey, 3315 U.S. Rt. 2.Saturday and Sunday, 10 a.m.-3 p.m.

“Maine Maple Producers are waiting to welcome the public to their sugarhouses to see demonstrations on how syrup is made and taste samples of syrup and foods made with syrup. Many farms also offer games, activities, treats, sugarbush tours, music, and so much more,” said Kathy Hopkins, newsletter editor for the Maine Maple Producers Association.

Every fourth Sunday of March, visitors are invited to support Maine’s maple businesses and shop, meet and learn about maple syrup and a variety of maple products that feature real Maine maple syrup as an ingredient.
