The Discover D.C. spaghetti fundraiser held Saturday, March 9, from 4:30 to 6:30 at the Mapleton Lions Hall was a success.
Parents, student volunteers and teachers turned out to help make the evening a success. They served the dinner, made salads, prepared brownie a la modes and cleaned the dishes, pots, pans and the hall.
When cooking 50 lbs. of spaghetti and making enough homemade sauce to cover all that spaghetti, who do you call? The answer is a firefighter who makes a famous spaghetti sauce: Mapleton’s own Assistant Fire Chief Adam Rider. Diners greatly enjoyed the meal with his homemade meat sauce. In fact, folks came from all over Central Aroostook County when the word got out that Rider was preparing his special dinner.
The Discover D.C. trip is an opportunity for eighth-graders at Presque Isle Middle School to travel to Washington, D.C., during April vacation to learn about the country’s capital. While this trip is not sponsored by SAD 1, it is heavily supported by the fundraising efforts of parents, teachers and student volunteers.
Donations were accepted at the door and totaled $1,876 toward the cost of the trip. Bill Guerrette, who steers the Discover D.C. fundraising and trip, was extremely thankful for the support of all who attended. He especially thanked the Mapleton Lions Club for donating the use of the hall to hold the event.

The Chapman Town Meeting is scheduled for Monday, March 25, starting at 7 p.m. at the Chapman Ridge Runners Snowmobile Club.
